Guwahati, July 5: Good news might be on the horizon for thousands of job hunters in Assam and the wider Northeast region. The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) is gearing up to announce the much-awaited examination calendar for the upcoming Group D positions very soon. This massive hiring drive by the Indian Railways is aimed at filling up multiple vacant spots across several non-technical and technical branches, drawing interest from millions of youths nationwide.
While an official notification is still pending, insiders close to the board hint that the testing process will roll out in several separate windows later this year. Managing an applicant pool of this size is a massive task, which is why local centers are already setting up tight security to ensure a transparent computer-based test (CBT) environment. Candidates should stick to official regional railway portals for authentic news, as misleading schedules and rumors often pop up on social media during this waiting period.
Breaking Down the Examination Blueprint
Clearing the initial computer-based round requires a solid strategy. Applicants face a 100-question multiple-choice paper that they must finish within a 90-minute time limit. The syllabus tests knowledge across four distinct fields:
Basic Sciences: This section reviews fundamental physics, chemistry, and biology principles taught up to the 10th-grade high school curriculum.
Core Mathematics: Questions focus heavily on essential arithmetic topics like fractions, decimals, percentages, HCF, LCM, and ratio systems.
Reasoning Power: This segment checks logical thinking through coding puzzles, analogies, and Venn diagrams.
Current Topics: A general awareness portion evaluates knowledge of recent national news, political shifts, sports events, and basic economics.
A major factor to remember while practicing mock tests is the strict negative marking rule. An incorrect choice will cost you one-third (1/3) of the marks meant for that specific question. Because of this penalty, guessing blindly can ruin your overall merit score.
Passing the Physical Fitness Standard
The evaluation does not just end with a pen-and-paper score. Scoring above the CBT cut-off simply opens the door to the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), which features different passing scales based on gender.
For male candidates, the physical round demands carrying a 35 kg weight over a distance of 100 meters in under two minutes without setting it down on the ground. Additionally, they must complete a 1000-meter run in 4 minutes and 15 seconds.
Female candidates face a slightly modified requirement. They must carry a 20 kg weight across the same 100-meter track and finish their 1000-meter run within a time frame of 5 minutes and 40 seconds.
Although the fitness round is just a qualifying step rather than a point-scoring one, failing it means instant disqualification. The board compiles the final employment list by prioritizing CBT scores, followed closely by a thorough background verification check and a routine medical clearance review.
