In human civilization, science has acted as both a blessing and a curse. This is why we must use our logic to evaluate its gifts and ensure we are utilizing them responsibly. Herbert Spencer once defined science as "organized knowledge." In simpler terms, science is nothing but a collection of real, practical, and experimental facts gathered from observation. The systematic classification of this knowledge and the orderly development of its core principles form what we call science. It is undeniable that science has heavily impacted human life, bringing massive changes to our external world while fueling our mental growth. As a result, the world today has transformed completely. However, we should be careful not to let science turn us into its slaves. Today, we have reached a point where we cannot take a single step without man-made technological elements. From the moment we wake up in the morning until we go to sleep at night, our society depends entirely on the wonders of science. This total dependence makes life without technology seem impossible, slowly wrapping the chains of slavery around us. Humans are considered the finest creations of nature because we possess consciousness and the ability to think. Human effort and the study of nature are deeply connected to science. Studying nature, uncovering its mysteries, and the systematic process involved in doing so is what we call the scientific method. This method allows us to analyze natural events and elements to find the ultimate truth. Therefore, there is absolutely no doubt that science is dynamic, and its growth and progress are eternal.
Science has changed the course of human life in ways no one could have imagined. While it has brought immense development, we cannot deny that it has also brought unrest and destruction to human society. The invention of deadly weapons, nuclear bombs, gunpowder, guns, and warships has deeply disturbed global peace. Looking at it this way, there is nothing science cannot achieve today. It holds the power to destroy our entire planet in a matter of seconds. Yet, all the modern discoveries of science do not have the power to stop the furious forces of nature when it reacts. At the end of the day, we are just servants of nature. The creations of the natural world give us the true joy of being alive. Today, global warming is rising rapidly all over the world because we are rushing blindly toward industrialization. The toxic smoke coming out of factories and vehicles, along with harmful gases, poses a massive threat to Earth. To make matters worse, some people are actively competing to destroy forests without a second thought. Because of this, it is certain that we must prepare ourselves to face a much more dangerous and complicated environment in the near future. After all, nature is the very soul of all living beings. Nature has always fulfilled its duties toward the living world. Unfortunately, some cruel individuals wearing the mask of humanity are mindlessly destroying forests, ruining both their own future and the natural beauty around them. Everything we need to stay alive, from the food we eat to the shelter we build, is a gift from nature. Not only that, but destroying nature has also reduced the fertility of our agricultural land, making it completely unfit for farming. The main reasons behind this land degradation are deforestation, pollution, landslides, excessive mining of hills and rivers, brick kilns, setting up various industries, and rapid urbanization.
Because of these factors, the quality of our earth's soil is dropping day by day, ringing a danger bell for human society. Another example of this threat is the destruction of rainforests, which are among nature's finest gifts. We are all witnessing how human society is suffering from the bad consequences of environmental damage. Due to the wrong actions of humans against nature, artificial floods cause massive damage every single year. This heavily impacts the economy of our country. Furthermore, deforestation has severely damaged our biodiversity. In today's villages, you can no longer find that familiar old environment. That beautiful gathering of fireflies as soon as darkness falls, the colorful butterflies, the croaking of frogs, and the sweet chirping of birds at dawn—that familiar vibe is simply gone. We must remember that humans and nature depend on each other. Trees are essential to give us the oxygen we breathe. Therefore, if anyone dreams of surviving without nature, it only shows their complete ignorance.
There is a huge difference between a natural environment and a man-made one. A geographical region is recognized by its natural environment. In this regard, forests and rainforests play a massive role in controlling climate, managing the environment, and balancing the relationship between humans and nature. We all know that today, the richest wealth we have is our natural resources. Resources that we get from nature or that exist within its heart are what we call natural resources. If nature itself disappears, where will we gather these resources from? We must agree that these resources play a vital role in the overall growth of a country. A land rich in natural resources has endless potential for development. Assam is also a state blessed with abundant natural resources. Its hills, forests, and rivers can be called a massive storehouse of endless wealth. But is it acceptable to destroy all of this just in the name of development? Can we not find alternative ways to explore and use these natural elements without harming the environment?
